With summer right around the corner, it’s time we all start taking caution with storage of the items in our cars. These ten things should never leave your car in a hot parking lot. If one of these items is accidentally left in your car, the consequences could be catastrophic.
Summer is almost here, and with it comes warmer weather. Many of us will be hitting the road more often and spending more time enjoying the great outdoors. And while we often drive safely, there’s no doubt that mistakes happen, and even if you take precautions, there is a chance your car’s interior can get toasty. So, what should you never leave in your car on a hot day?
Personal Care Items
Heat can impair deodorant, shampoo, and lotion, among other things. If the temperature rises too high, some deodorants will melt. Cosmetics like lotion and shampoo might lose their effectiveness over time or absorb dangerous substances from their plastic packaging. This is primarily an issue for flammable products, though.

Electronic gadgets
Leaving any electronic item in your automobile is a recipe for disaster. Leaving a laptop or tablet in your car, even when it’s not hot outside, might brighten a thief’s day. However, if it is too hot outside, you risk permanently harming your equipment. Keep in mind that heat and technological equipment are incompatible.
Beauty Supplies
Leaving makeup in a hot automobile, such as lipstick, might cause it to melt. In general, powder-based beauty products hold up better in the heat. When compressed cans, such as hair spray, are exposed to severe heat, they can explode. If at all possible, keep any cosmetic items out of your automobile unless you’re confident that the heat won’t deteriorate or harm them.
Batteries
You’ve probably come across a leaking battery before. Batteries aren’t meant to withstand severe heat, yet the inside of our vehicles can reach that temperature. While having an emergency torch in your car is a smart idea, keep in mind that the batteries can leak acid if left in the heat. A flashlight that does not require batteries is one option. Solar power and/or a built-in hand crank are used to power these flashlights. They’re ideal for keeping in your glove compartment or as a backup to your main flashlight.
Food Items
While it’s simple to avoid leaving milk or other perishable products in a hot car, some foods don’t do well in severe temperatures. Chocolate, as well as candies, veggies, and fruits, are examples. If you don’t have a cooler, crackers, nuts, and granola are all things that will keep you cool for a long time. Plastic Bottles
Never leave a plastic bottle in your car. If they are, they should be recycled or discarded rather than reused. Plastic bottles frequently contain substances that are potentially detrimental to human health. When a bottle is exposed to the sun or heat, the plastic might deteriorate, allowing chemicals to leach into the liquid within. This is why, even after it has cooled down, drinking from a plastic bottle that has been sitting in a hot car is never a smart idea. Plastic bottles should be kept in a cooler with ice and removed as soon as possible.
Food wrappers and trash
While it’s difficult to prevent creating trash in your car, it’s always a good idea to get rid of it as soon as possible. Food scraps and beverage residues can fester in the heat and stink up quickly. Bacteria thrives in such conditions, and once it has been established in your automobile, it can be difficult to remove or hide the odor. Getting into the habit of tossing away any rubbish in your car every time you stop for petrol or food is a smart habit to develop.
Sunscreen
Sunscreen is a must-have tool for protecting your skin from the sun. However, leaving a bottle of sunscreen in the heat of your car for an extended period of time can render it worthless. If you’ve ever read the fine print on your sunscreen, you’ll recall that it says “stay away from excessive heat and direct sunshine.” So remember to take out your sunscreen the next time you leave your beach bag in the car!
Medicines
In the tiny print of many over-the-counter and prescription medications, there are warnings like “keep in a cool, dry location.” This is because the active components in these medications can degrade when exposed to high temperatures. This is particularly concerning for those who rely on drugs to keep healthy and function. Even if your prescription doesn’t state that it should be avoided in hot weather, it’s better to be safe than sorry. Take your medication out of the car with you.
In summary, you are reminded not to overheat your car. If you must leave children in the car, do not leave them alone, even if you feel like leaving them for just a few minutes.
